We Are A Family of Supers – Part 1

August 11, 2019

“I’m Your Number One Fan”

Children naturally want to be just like the in their lives (Ephesians 5:1).

To them, adults are .

But the real superhero work is turning other people into

We do this by helping people Jesus (Galatians 4:19).

You become a superhero when , the most powerful superhero, lives in you.

When Jesus lives in you, He gives you super (Ephesians 3:20).

“I Just Want To Help”

Adults think that the “” children offer their mission.

When children “get in the way,” it’s an invitation and opportunity to show them the power of through the .

Our teach better than our .

When we reject , they reject .

Rejected children may put more trust in power than in power.

They trust (from Google) more than (from the Holy Spirit).

Superheroes Without A Job

When you are an adult at the of your powers, you feel .

But when the world , you see how you really are.

Adult Playpens

The world wants to convince you to make your identity your identity.

When you define yourself by your secular , employment cycles l your world and determine your.

By the world’s standards, once you have passed your prime (in talent or age), you become a instead of a .

Deep down inside, you know that God has called you to more, but every time you find a spark of inspiration, the world it.

Quit living below your potential. Live like you’re the child of a (Ephesians 4:1).

Family Life Under the Sun

When we do not live like we are the children of a God, our lives become dull, and destructive (Ecclesiastes 1: 1-11).

Superheroes who don’t know their purpose their gifts, using them to people instead of help them.

When we live out of our , our gifts become hidden in plain .

R-E-S-P-E-C-T

The world offers a choice, insisting that we can either be or natural, but not both.

God has called us to live in the world but not be of it (John 17:15-16).

We have a identity, but we work for God.

We use our secret identity to do work.

We must go beyond our job (and homework assignments) to be obedient to God.

Key Idea:

Abandon your mission and find God’s.

God’s mission is to expand His superhero (Genesis 12: 2-3).

We do God’s mission by using our most important superpower: (Romans 4: 20 “. . . .Abraham never stopped believing. He grew stronger in his faith and gave praise to God.”)

When your goal is only to be super, you fall into the world’s trap.

You need (in God) to be super and He calls us to help everyone be super in .

Abraham, Sarah, Moses and Joshua did not allow their bodies to define what they could do for God (Romans 4:19-21).

Payback

Our biggest enemy is often the child we provoked to (Ephesians 6:4, Malachi 4:5-6).

children can become adults who use their to shame and destroy us.

Though Syndrome is a grown man, the little boy in him is still .

He uses his to express the of his bitter, unforgiving heart.

The young generation’s technological superiority can make them and even more vulnerable to power.

Had those same young people been mentored when they were our audience, they would have used their gifts for .

There’s no time like the present to change . It’s not too late to help the next natural and spiritual .

Superhero Homework Assignments:

  • The Superpower of Giving: Support our youngest and first homegrown missionary: Jhori Parrish
  • The Superpower of Praise: Join the Youth and Young Choir
  • The Superpower of Prayer: When you talk to God, you’re using your faith, the most important superpower. If you don’t know what to say to God, here are some suggestions:
  1. Thank God. Tell Him how grateful you are for something you have or that happened to you.
  2. Ask God a question. Ask Him about something you want to know. Even if He does not answer right away, ask him every day until He responds.
  3. Ask God to help someone else. Ask God to help someone you know with something they need or want.
  4. Ask God to help you. Think of something you need or want and ask God to give it to you.
  5. Pray in Tongues. This is another superpower. If you don’t have this power yet, ask God to give it to you.
