“Jesus, My Healer” Part 3

July 16, 2023

Introduction

I am presenting a collection of sermons and series focused on Rediscovering God as a healer of our bodies.

These sermons have two goals:

  • My first goal is for you to see God as someone who heals readily and not reluctantly.
  • My second goal is for you to receive healing from God readily and not reluctantly.

Big Ideas

  • God’s healing ministry begins in the Old Testament.
  • Jesus is identified as a healer in the Old Testament.
  • The benefit of healing from God is both spiritual and physical.
  • The broader meaning of healing is to restore and make whole.
  • God’s will is to heal (restore and make whole) the entire planet and its inhabitants.
  • God’s will is to heal you.
  • Healing is a matter of when, not if.
  • Jesus already healed you (and now it’s just a matter of when your body expresses the effects of healing)
  • Jesus’ healing of the human body is proof that He can heal everything else.
  • Some of the benefits of the future healed earth can be accessed now.
  • The existence of sickness and disease is the direct result of the sin of Adam.
  • To pursue divine healing is to see sickness as an enemy.
  • The existence of sickness and disease is the work of the devil.
  • Resisting sickness and disease is a form of resisting the devil.
  • To resist the devil is to resist his words and his works.
  • You resist the devil with words.

What kind of heart do you prepare for Jesus when you listen to Him talk?

This Parable of the Sower

(Matthew 13:1-23, Mark 4:1-20, Luke 8:1-15)

4 Different Hearts, 4 Different Listeners

  • Path: Matthew 13:19 (ESV)19 When anyone hears the word of the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what has been sown in his heart. This is what was sown along the path.
  • Stony: Matthew 13:20–21 (ESV)20 As for what was sown on rocky ground, this is the one who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy, 21 yet he has no root in himself, but endures for a while, and when tribulation or persecution arises on account of the word, immediately he falls away.
  • Thorny: Matthew 13:22 (ESV)22 As for what was sown among thorns, this is the one who hears the word, but the cares of the world and the deceitfulness of riches choke the word, and it proves unfruitful.
    • John 15:5 (ESV)5 I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.
  • Good: Matthew 13:23 (ESV)23 As for what was sown on good soil, this is the one who hears the word and understands it. He indeed bears fruit and yields, in one case a hundredfold, in another sixty, and in another thirty.” Luke 8:15 (ESV) – 15 As for that in the good soil, they are those who, hearing the word, hold it fast in an honest and good heart, and bear fruit with patience.

People Who Bear Fruit Abide

John 15:7 (ESV)7 If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.
