Jesus, My Healer – Volume 4, Part 6

December 3, 2023

Review

This fourth volume will continue to build on an important observation we made about receiving healing from Jesus:

  • Strong faith for healing requires that the Scripture resides deep within us.
  • People receive different results from God because they have different relationships to the Word.
  • Your relationship to the Word is based on how well it settles in your heart.

The Word that is not Understood (Review)

Matthew 13:18–19 (ESV):  18 “Hear then the parable of the sower: 19 When anyone hears the word of the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what has been sown in his heart. This is what was sown along the path.

What Persistence in the Word Looks Like:

Proverbs 2:1–6 (ESV): 1 My son, if you receive my words and treasure up my commandments with you, 2 making your ear attentive to wisdom and inclining your heart to understanding; 3 yes, if you call out for insight and raise your voice for understanding, 4 if you seek it like silver and search for it as for hidden treasures, 5 then you will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God. 6 For the Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding

  • Time in the Word should be an active pursuit that exhausts every resource to achieve its objective.
  • When you’re confused, you’re on the verge of becoming wiser—if you just continue in the Word.

The Word with No Root

Matthew 13:20 (ESV): 20 As for what was sown on rocky ground, this is the one who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy,

Matthew 13:21 (ESV): 21 yet he has no root in himself, but endures for a while, and when tribulation or persecution arises on account of the word, immediately he falls away.

Psalm 1:1–3 (ESV): 1 Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; 2 but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night. 3 He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers.

  • If you want to be healed, you have to grow in the Word.

2 Timothy 4:3 (ESV): 3 For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions,

Job 34:3 (ESV): 3 for the ear tests words as the palate tastes food.

  • When you mature, you grow to a place where you eat for nourishment, not taste.

The Word with No Fruit

Matthew 13:22 (ESV): 22 As for what was sown among thorns, this is the one who hears the word, but the cares of the world and the deceitfulness of riches choke the word, and it proves unfruitful.

The Word that Bears Fruit

Matthew 13:23 (ESV): 23 As for what was sown on good soil, this is the one who hears the word and understands it. He indeed bears fruit and yields, in one case a hundredfold, in another sixty, and in another thirty.”
